Oasis's Six Pillars of Holistic Care :

We find that each family that comes to our retreat center is frequently in the midst of some form of significant change. Whether that change has been brought about by crisis, a natural season or job change, or by burning out, most of our guests have a complex transition to navigate.

Our care team uses and has adapted the Kübler-Ross Change Curve as a framework to help guide families through that process :

Change Curve

  • Families come to us from situations of crisis, unequipped to navigate them.

  • “If I just keep going everything is going to be ok” is what they tell themselves in order to not lose hope.

  • We invite guests to debrief their experience in a safe environment. This begins to open them up to what really happened, allowing emotions to flow freely.

  • Guiding guests into acknowledging the scope of what they have experienced causes them to imagine “what if” scenarios where they could have prevented it.

  • Understanding that it wasn’t their fault, and that things happen, causes many to question God’s goodness, and their calling. Anxiety and depression are common here.

  • Through encouragement, counseling and care, a guest can process through their experience, its implications, and come to a place where they accept what they’ve gone through.

  • This acceptance allows for closure to begin. This begins the process of restoration of hope, and starting to look toward what comes next. We seek to guide each family into a place where they are able to see clearly where they have come from, and where they need to go next, for their ongoing healing journey.
