MUIZENBERG :

Muizenberg is considered to be the birthplace of surfing in South Africa, centered around the popular “Surfer’s Corner”, and boasting of beautiful ocean views. Muizenberg is also know for its colorful beach huts on our white sand beaches.

BEAUTIFUL PLACES / THINGS TO DO:

  • Go up to Boyes Drive which overlooks the city and easy drive to avoid Main Rd.

  • Walk on the beach — sometimes it can be dangerous, so be cautious- don’t walk past the colored houses, or ever when there aren’t lots of people around

  • Walk the boardwalk — sometimes it can be dangerous, so be cautious- don’t walk past Put Put

  • Park past the traffic circle downtown Muiz its a great spot to watch the waves

  • Zandvlei Estuary Nature Reserve — perfect place for an evening walk to watch the sun go down, or sit on the beach. Sometimes there are Flamingos, Egyptian Geese, Ibis, or Heron.

  • Put Put (mini golf) — between Beach Rd. & the boardwalk

  • Charity Shops — Hidden Treasures (next to Checkers) or Living Hope (on Main Road)

  • Surfing — lessons are available for hire in some of the beach front shops- or a local YWAMer, Beau gives lessons (has done so for many years, including a wetsuit and board rental) +27 (84) 390-7770

  • Joon — favorite gathering place for locals and they serve great pizza- they also have a great back patio / garden

  • Hang out at The Commons — which is a Cafe + Vinyl, Book Store + Bar + Studio + Workshop with live Music

  • Thursday + Friday Nights (4-9 pm) Blue Bird Garage — a vibey food market. They have clothes, jewelry and fresh vegetables for sale as well. A great gathering places for locals! We love their steak salad board food stand, and they also carry affordable flowers and produce. Kid and pet friendly

  • Sundays (8 am - 4pm): Muizenberg Flea Market at Sunrise Circle- you can pick up South African souvenirs and affordable homeware

  • Cape Open Air — fun outdoor music festival

  • Kosies Place — has the cheapest breakfast, they love to bless YWAMers with prayer — on the corner of Clevedon and Alexander Road 

  • Bootlegger — dipped ice cream cones, coconut hot chocolate

  • Empire Cafe — outside area overlooking the Bay, great place for coffee and delectable nibbles

  • Harvest Cafe & Deli — coffee shop

  • Hans Lloyd Coffee Co — a brand new coffee shop where Gaslight Cafe used to be

  • Knead Bakery — best pastries (their lattes- turmeric and beetroot and matcha are really great as well)

  • Xpression Cafe — great acai bowls, bagels and coffee in a cone

  • Tigers Milk — has some R39 breakfast, R49 with coffee

  • Joon (in the Village) — great woodfire pizzas and outdoor seating

  • Casa Labia — just a little walk beyond Muizenberg station- an art gallery, restaurant and tea shop where you can get a light coffee or meal in a beautiful venue

  • The Real Bread — hole in the wall bakery with the best local fresh bread (recommendation from our European friends)

  • Tokai Forest — a beautiful area to explore- baboons are heavily around so keep that in mind- also Cape Cobras

  • Elephant Eye Hike — an easy hike and you will find great view points en route

  • Silvermine Hike & waterfall — you pay for entry, so its a safe hike, R40 with great spot to braai, sunbathe and swim

  • Shopping at Blue Route Mall — the closest medium sized mall and movie theater to us

  • Chilled Market at The Range — 4:30-9:30 pm Fridays or 10 am - 4 pm

  • Wynberg Park — great place to enjoy the nature.. don’t miss out on the Krakeelwater spring, Conifer Garden, duck pond and water fountain. Great play area, lots of space and grass for kids to run around, several of braai spots and shady trees. Dog friendly

  • Four & Twenty Cafe — Parisian inspired cafe with all day breakfast, one of the top rated in the city

  • Chart Farm — cute cafe you need to book because its busy, huge rose garden (get your own bucket where you pick your own roses for R5 each, R3 per rose on Sundays). You can also visit the Farm Stall while you’re there to buy farm fresh goods like lemons, limes, grapes, figs, chestnuts, and cherries
