ASHE FAMILY TRUST FUND / SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Because of the generosity of the Ashe Family, we have access to a scholarship fund which seeks to release and empower South Africans into the mission field by offering financial support towards students DTS Outreach Fees. Below are guidelines for school leaders to be aware of where considering if any of their student could potentially apply for the scholarship.

WHO CAN APPLY?

South Africans from underprivileged backgrounds.

HOW MANY STUDENTS CAN APPLY?

Because the number of students applying for scholarships has grown significantly over the past few years and because we want to create a fair platform through any given year we allow for 2 - 3 students to apply per school.

WHAT MUST A SCHOOL LEADER DO?

Once a school leader has identified which students they would like to put forward for scholarship, they will need to have an intentional conversation with each each of them about the possibility of applying for the scholarship. The following needs to be communicated -

  • That they might be eligible for the Ashe Family Trust Scholarship.

  • That the available funds are only for outreach fees.

  • That scholarship applications are never guaranteed and there is no promise of funding and as such students should continue to work hardhat fundraising towards their outreach fees.

  • That the scholarship - if approved - will only be released once all lecture fees has been fully paid in full.

DOWNLOAD THE ASHE FAMILY TRUST SCHOLARSHIP GUIDE FOR STUDENTS

Give each student applying a copy of the guidelines sheet downloadable above.

Each student will need to write a letter as outlined in the guidelines (letters must either be typed or hand written and then scanned into a PDF document). The school leader will also need to write a letter of application stating how much funding the student requires for their outreach, location of their outreach, as well as all the  other questions stated in the guidelines.

LETERS MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE END OF WEEK FOUR ... NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED BEYOND THIS POINT IN ANY GIVEN QUARTER.

WHATS NEXT?

As a school leader you can apply for the same scholarship applicant to be re-categorized from category B (the general category for South African students) to category C. You will need to download the re-categorization form and fill it out. This gets submitted to the finance committee who will make a decision.

THE DECISION

Once a scholarship and or re-categorization decision has been made the funds will be available from the finance office. If the Ashe Family Trust have allocated a "top up scholarship" - then the rest of the outreach fees must be raised before this money can get released to the students account. For example, if R25,000 was given by the scholarship, and the total outreach budget is R30,000 ... then the remaining R5,000 must paid in by the student before any scholarship funds can be released.

AFTER OUTREACH

If any of your students received funding from The Ashe Family Trust we require a thank you letter to be written by each student including some details and testimonies from their outreach and by the school leader during your schools debrief.

Please include all of the following people in your email correspondence concerning all submissions.
